Participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or M. health crisis.

Mental Health First Aid Training for Healthcare Providers and Community Professionals & students in health and helping programs from Queen's University, St. Lawrence College and Royal Military College. MHFA Part 1 on Monday, December 16 from 1:00-4:30 PM & Tuesday, December 17th for MHFA Part 2 from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

- Talk about declines in their mental well-being

- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being

- Reach out to these supports

- Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis

- Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

MHFA Standard is a brand new, highly interactive virtual adaptation of the Mental Health First Aid training program, and uses a blended learning model. This 8-hour course opens with a self-directed module that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the virtual classroom modules.

Module 1: Self-Directed – To be completed by Saturday, December 14th, 2025 at 11:00 AM and submit Proof of Completion of Module 1 to Constantin at [email protected]

- Introduction to the course

- Introduction to MHFA actions

Module 2: Virtual Classroom

- Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being

- Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community

Module 3: Virtual Classroom

- Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care

- Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID STANDARD (8 hours)

MHFA Part 1 on Monday, December 16th,2024 from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM & Tuesday, December 17th,2024 MHFA Part 2 from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM *Eastern time zone*

Registration deadline: Tuesday, December 10th 2024 or when all 15 seats are filled.

Course fee: It will be covered by KCHC-Self-Management Program of Southeastern Ontario – Actual cost is $219.00 per person (HST applicable)
