Participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or M. health crisis.

Virtual Mental Health First Aid Training, Part 1 on Tuesday, January 26th & Part 2 on Thursday , January 28th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

- Talk about declines in their mental well-being

- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being

- Reach out to these supports

- Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis

- Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

MHFA Standard is a brand new, highly interactive virtual adaptation of the Mental Health First Aid training program, and uses a blended learning model. This 8-hour course opens with a self-directed module that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the virtual classroom modules.

Module 1: Self-Directed – To be completed by January 25 at 9:00 AM and submit Proof of Completion of Module 1 to Constantin at constantinm@kchc.ca

- Introduction to the course

- Introduction to MHFA actions

Module 2: Virtual Classroom

- Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being

- Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community

Module 3: Virtual Classroom

- Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care

- Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID STANDARD (8 hours)

Tuesday & Thursday, January 26 & 28th, 2021

9:00AM - 12:00 PM both days *Eastern time zone*

Online via Zoom | Facilitator: Sherry Lachine, M.Sc. Appl Psych

Registration deadline: Wednesday, January 20th or when all 20 seats fill.

Deadline to submit Proof of Completion of Module 1 to Constantin Mugenga at constantinm@kchc.ca : Monday, January 25 at 9:00 AM

Course fee: It will be covered by KCHC-Self-Management Program of Southeastern Ontario – Actual cost is $219.00 per person (HST applicable)

About Our Facilitator

Broadmind, will deliver the virtual MHFA training using the Zoom platform with one key facilitator:

Sherry Lachine B.Eng, MSc Appl Psych: owner of Broadmind and practicing Mental Health Professional. Sherry has a Masters in Applied Psychology with a focus on mental health and started her career as an engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces, she now works with the veteran and first responder communities to increase mental health literacy and build resilience. She teaches Mental Health First Aid and has instructed over 1600 people across Canada. She is a Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) certified advisor on the standard for Psychological Health and Safety. She is the past president on the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kingston Branch and consults for Morneau Shepell EAP.
