Briefly review and learn some skills and knowledge around mental health. The “new normal” of COVID – 19 and virtual work in a pandemic.

This is a 60 minute online Mental Health Workshop held over Zoom, on Tuesday, September 28 from 12:00 to 1:00pm.

Because of the way that we are funded, this workshop is open to those living in Southeastern Ontario. If there are spots left about a week beforehand, then those spots will become open to others.

This workshop will be offered via Zoom Meeting. You will need to download the software, but it is free and you do not need an account. You can choose to share your video image or not, although it is highly encouraged for you to do so. If you are not familiar with Zoom and would like to schedule an orientation/practice session, please contact Danielle at [email protected] or 613-484-8072.

Learn more about mental health and the impact of stress on one's body and mind, along with some basic ways to support both yourself and others. We'll also see how these concepts are the same or different during a pandemic.

This free online Lunch and Learn session is a great introduction for those new to the topic or a nice review with potentially some new resources for those already knowledgeable on the topic. It also acts as a great introduction and/or refresher before taking one of our Mental Health First Aid Sessions.

The overall objective of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for community members to briefly review and learn some skills and knowledge around mental health. The “new normal” of COVID – 19 has changed the way we interact and perhaps added some additional stress. Learning about how we operate in these times could support not only our own mental health but the mental health of those around us.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to help themselves and others by:

  • Describing what is mental health,
  • Understanding how stress impacts the mind and body,
  • Listing the ways to help yourself,
  • Describing ways to support others,
  • Identifying the resources, self-care and next steps for improving individual and collective mental health.

An increased focus will look at individual and social skills that allow humans to interact safely in these unprecedented times.

About Our Facilitator

Broadmind, will deliver the virtual workshop using the Zoom platform with one key facilitator:

Sherry Lachine B.Eng, MSc Appl Psych: owner of Broadmind and practicing Mental Health Professional. Sherry has a Masters in Applied Psychology with a focus on mental health and started her career as an engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces, she now works with the veteran and first responder communities to increase mental health literacy and build resilience. She teaches Mental Health First Aid and has instructed over 1600 people across Canada. She is a Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) certified advisor on the standard for Psychological Health and Safety. She is the past president on the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kingston Branch and consults for Morneau Shepell EAP.
